Flying for the first time, as the piolet. Raymond Holmes-King Week 13

Have you ever flown a plane before?

That is my favorite question to ask people because the answer is usually no. I am lucky enough to have flown a plane at a very young age. I don’t know how old I was exactly, but I believe I was around 8 years old.

My grandpa used to own some planes, and he took me up flying with him once. Once we were in the sky, he let me control the plane. My young mind couldn't believe it! Me, flying a plane? Sign me up!

My grandpa told me to GENTLY move the control stick(the joystick looking thing)up, so of course my little self yanked the control stick upwards, and up went the plane. My older brother, who was also in the plane, yelled at the top of his lungs, “WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!”(I will always remember that part very fondly). I gently moved the joystick back to its original state, and I quickly learned that you have to be very sensitive with the control stick.

I am very grateful to my grandpa for letting me have the experience of flying in the sky in a plane and being in control of the plane. When flying, I got the feeling that I could go anywhere I wanted, that the sky was not the limit. I will always remember the time I flew a -lane with my grandpa forever, and I am also thankful that I get to have some bragging rights that I flew a plane and other people have not, but I usually don't rub it in too much.

  1. Hi Raymond!

It's so interesting that you've actually flown a plane before, especially at such a young age! I'm always awestruck when on a plane—by the creativity of mankind in taking to the skies and the beauty of nature as we rise high above the clouds, accompanied by the steady roar of the engines. In my opinion, some of the best pictures of the sky are taken above the cloud cover.

I completely understand that you don’t want to rub it in that you got to experience something so unique. If it were me, I wouldn’t be able to stop talking about it! It just seems like such a cool experience and something I would definitely use in a game of "Two Truths and a Lie."

Are you considering becoming a pilot in the future?
