Raymond Holmes-King Week 11: Power of the Internet

Everyone knows what the internet is. In today's world, it is a necessity for almost everyone.

People can search up how to do pretty much anything on the internet.

People also use the internet as a main way of communication.

If the internet goes down, then you are stranded without the endless void of information.

If the internet goes down for good, I believe that civilization would destroy itself because most people rely on the internet to do a lot of things.

Everyone would lose their main way of communication with each other.

People would also have to learn how to read maps since people have now relied on direction from our phones.

Maybe it would be a good thing if the internet went down, more people would go outside and be social in person and get more exercise, but we are in a world were people's lives would be over if they don’t have the internet.

A lot of peoples jobs revolve around the internet, so a lot of people would become jobless.

If the internet went down, people couldn't watch videos that would teach them how to do things.

People would also lose their main source of entertainment.

As humans, we have evolved a lot over the years, but in today’s world, we have centered ourselves around technology and the internet, so if it ever gets destroyed for good, then our whole society as a whole would collapse. To pretty much sum all of the things I said above, if the internet ever goes down for good, the world would never be the same, the world would be plunged into chaos and confusion. Humans have centered their lives around the internet, so the internet holds the power to destroy mankind.

  1. Hi Raymond! I definitely agree with you that the Internet has a chokehold on all of our lives as we use it for everything, whether it is to search up a baking recipe or what is the trendiest product on Amazon that makes our lives more efficient. I cannot imagine a life without the Internet where I would have to use physical maps rather than Google Maps. It would be a disaster if I had to this because I do not have good navigation skills. I also agree with you when you state how a lot of people are reliant on the Internet as a way of communication and a way of learning. Especially when I do not get a certain chemistry topic, I search it up on the Internet and find videos that explain it in simpler terms. The Internet is also helpful when it uses some platforms to turn learning into fun games, which improve children's memory and improve their ability to learn.

  2. Hi Raymond! I agree with you in the sense that the internet going down would most definitely cause mass panic. I felt that the sentiment you are describing is similar to those felt by people experiencing Y2K. Despite the mass panic that occurred from the supposed "end of the internet," nothing really happened. I'd be curious to see how our generation would react if the internet were to go down. We are all so reliant on the internet nowadays that it's disappearance would be like the sun going out.
